A Few Thoughts on the Dutch-Learning Duolingo Community...
Hallo, everyone! Last night, I stayed up until 2am completing my Dutch Tree (WORTH IT, YOU GET A VIRTUAL TROPHY!!), so I spent some time on the two final skills, NL 1 and NL 2, I believe they are called.
The Dutch course is excellent. It's not particularly long but it teaches the language very well. Some of the sentences are absolutely hilarious (his grandfather was a goat. don't ask.), but most of all, I really loved the little community that somewhat sprung up in the comments section. Although you often can't expect to see everyone behaving really nicely on the internet, I saw nothing but enthusiasts joking about the sentences and helping each other out in the comments for each sentence. It was really very nice to see a community of language lovers all laughing together while learning Dutch, and basically no one finding any reason to be nasty.
I particularly loved the NL skills because it opened up an opportunity to discuss all these interesting words relating to Dutch culture (I would really like to try Hagelslag now =D) and for people to share their knowledge on the topic!!
I'm sure this happens on other courses too (I try out a lot of the courses) but I particularly noticed this on this course since I've been working really hard on my Dutch ^-^. Props to Duolingo, the course contributors, moderators and participants for helping to create an awesome (and quite gezellig!!) platform to chat about this stuff!!
-A very happy Dutch learner <3
Congratulations on finishing your tree! The Dutch community of natives and learners is possibly one of the warmest communities I've ever had the pleasure of being a part of so it's great to hear that our learners are feeling like they are welcome to be themselves!
Also, I tried hagelslag for the first time last week (I'm not a native Dutchie) and you will not be disappointed! My fiancé brought over some from AH on his visit (along with speculaas) :D I hope you get to try it soon!
Congrats! I'm almost finished with the Spanish tree and it has taken MONTHS! I started on Dutch, but still have a long way to go. I recently lived in Holland for 2 months and picked up a lot of the simple words and phrases. I'm finding it easier to learn than Spanish, although I'm much more familiar with Spanish.
I have just started both Duolingo and the Dutch module, and one of the things I've loved the most are the people I see learning here! ♥
Zo gezellig. ;)
Congratulations on finishing!
Dank je =D I hope you enjoy learning languages with Duo, I've been using it to fuel my language obsessions for a good 3 years now, and it's been a great help all the way. Veel geluck met jouw Nederlands!!! =)
