Just the Dutch naming animals
For real?? Dutch is not kidding right? lmao
Well, checking German . . .
English can be pretty funny too.
Vogelbekdier (Bird beak animal) ---> Platapus (A what a pus) Inktvis (ink fish) ---> Octopus (Yet another pus) Vliegende hond (Flying dog) ---> Flying fox (in Australia anyway) Luiaard (Lazy being) ---> Sloth (Australischlijk)
I just love the Spookdiertje
How come we didn't have these animals in the animals skill?!
This was hilarious, thank you!
The 'vliegende hond' is actually called 'vleermuis'. Which means 'wing mouse' XD
Vliegende hond (or vleerhond) is correct. They are a taxonomical family of big bats. In English they are called megabats or fruit bats (and some of them are also called flying fox). See https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vleerhonden (in Dutch) or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megabat (in English).
The list doesn't even contain the following. :)
walvis (whale - shore fish):
stinkdier (skunk - stink animal):
wasbeer (raccoon - wash bear):
zeehond (seal - sea dog):
And of course we also use zeepaardje (see horse) and zeekoe (see cow).
