It looks really nice, while I have to say that it is not what I suggested. For those who have not seen it, it looks like this:

And here is the webpage:

Does Catalan really have 4 million native speakers? It seems a lot considering the population of Barcelona is 1.6 million..... Having said that, I have been in some of the surrounding towns such as Girona and in these places, Catalan is very much the 1st language and Spanish is 2nd.

Well yes, in 2012 it does. And it also has 5.1 L2 speakers, if you read the Wiki page for it :) remember Barcelona just doesn't count for Catalan. There's Catalan speakers in Andorra, Valencia and North Catalan (as well as Catalan itself) and the Balearic Islands are Catalan speakers also :) if you look at the wiki page and scroll down to the number of speakers section, it has a table detailing where the speakers are mostly from :) and how much can speak/understand it.

As well as the Sardinian town of Alghero (now most famous as a Ryanair airport)!

In the last Report on the situation of te Catalan Language (2013) from the Observatory of the Catalan Language, it was estimated that the residents of the Catalan-speaking community were around 13.6 Milion people and that around 9-10 Milion people had some degree of skills in Catalan language.

It looks really good, and good to see a new course there too. I was expecting them to use that awesome church in Barcelona though.

Great! I wonder why they didn't use the Sagrada Familia or something related to the Parc Güell, tho!

Me alegra ver un nuevo curso para hispano-hablantes. Ojalá sigan llegando más idiomas para nosotros: griego, ruso, hebreo, latín, esperanto, koreano, quechua, guaraní, gallego y euskara. ¿Se imaginan?

Guarani is the native language of my mother and other relatives from Paraguay, and perhaps, in the future, I could be a collaborator for Spanish speakers. But still I need to learn a lot of Guarani... =D

Que bien!. Ojalá aprendas mucho y muy rápido para que puedas ofrecerte como colaborador para ese curso.

Cool looking course and incubator pic :))) Of course Catalan for Spanish speakers is the priority as most people learning it will also speak Spanish, but is there any chance of a Catalan course for English speakers once the Spanish one is finished?

June 24, 2015

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/doktorkampi

Sure! Probably we will have to wait until the course is finished and stable. After that...

I'm going to try this even though my Spanish is shaky. Hey, it's a challenge. Guess I have an excuse to complete and review the English to Spanish tree.

I'm feeling quite dissappointed about the landmark used... why arc del Triomf? I'm Catalan and is probably one of the last landmarks people usually pay attention when visiting Barcelona...

The Sagrada Familia is a better known landmark, I'd prefer it over the Arch of Triumph.

You can see it here switching your language to spanish at the top right corner

The flag doesn't appear yet in the incubator but at least we see it in that link.

What's the holdup on the Greek and Yiddish landmarks? I get that they take a while to create but a new visitor could come to the website and have no idea they're being built. You'd think it'd be a higher priority.

I feel like the importance of a course's landmark should not be taken lightly. The image that they choose to create will likely be their final one for all other courses that come out for the language. It's really a big deal, and I think that they will be worth the wait. :)

Edit: I too am eagerly awaiting the course pages, by the way.

The course is Catalan from Spanish, yet the course description is written in English. Why is that?

June 25, 2015

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/RobertStef3

If you switch to a Spanish course, such as English for Spanish speakers, you will see the description in Spanish.

Cool. I didn't know it did that
