You have to conjugate the verb to match the subject. You wouldn't say I is, you would change the verb to say I am. In Spanish it is conjugated as
Yo soy Tú eres Él, ella, usted es Nosotros(as) somos Vosotros(as) sois Ellos,Ellas,Ustedes son When there is only 1 subject for the verb it can be condensed into just the verb. So yo soy can become just soy. Sometimes they drop the subject when it shares the verb too. Like this sentence, it can be translated to "Es una mujer" which can mean, you (formal) are a woman, he is a woman (but this is knocked out because woman is feminine), she is a woman, or since there is no subject pronoun for "it" this can also simply mean, "it is a woman".
because the sentence "she is a woman" in spanish is translated "Ella es una mujer" is literally translated as those exact words. The sentence "Ella eres una mujer" is translated as "she you're a woman", this is coming from a mexican that has a father born in mexico, he explained it to me, but back on track. Do you see how that might be confusing? 'Cause you are saying to them "she you're a woman" confusing and slightly insulting unless they really are a woman
I'm not complaining about the sentence I'm complaining about duolingo. Why isn't there a button to help? I didn't know the answer so i had to use 10 sth idk I'm new. That is ONE sentence. Ok ok ok... there is a tip, maybe that will tell... I'M NOT INTERESTED ABOUT LEARNING THE WORD DRINK!!! I'M INTERESTED ABOUT LEARNING THIS ONE... ONNNNEEEEE FRICKIN SENTENCE!!!
I need help. I am struggling in Spanish a lot I can't understand it. please give me some more tips.. I can really us them. I am doing German where I gain the most points but then Spanish is like my point loser. I would really like some TIPS. and I keep messing up if the word is masculine or feminine when there is no hint. But Duolingo you guys are great. you are better than any language book. Thank you for making a free education
The voice duolingo, uses for telling sentences, is not so friendly, i do not accept it. The voice is too low pitched, and does not help u , and it is also very fast, as a therapist and spanish teacher, i propose this complaint, pls solve this voice issues, i use duolingo to teach my students in a fun way, but my students, say the voice is not so kid friendly, and gives them weird thoughts, hope you know what i mean, its to rude and harsh, as far of me, i say u should replace the voice, or will raise a complaint again
formal is only reflected to speak to 'you' formally. In this sentence, the subject is she, so usted plays no role here. Also, the use of 'estar' is incorrect here, you must use 'ser'. This is because being a woman is a permanent condition, then 'ser' applies. Ella está una mujer is wrong. Ella es una mujer is right. Both would translate to She is a woman.
I had the record for this, and I spoke "Ella es una mujer," (at least that was my intent. I said a different word, but it registered. Anyway, to the problem) and it said I succeeded, having heard "Es una mujer." I assume the she is kind of implied, but I'm wondering in which cases are the pronouns unnecessary. Would it be just in the cases where you make the gender obvious by the rest of the sentence?
in Spanish it is not necessary to put the subject why by putting the words like "un, una, " we know what subject it is, that's why you do put "ella es una mujer" or "es una mujer" both are correct. Each word is related to the subject: El es UN... Ella es UNA ... I am a native Spanish speaker excuse my mistakes in English

It gives the option to put 'ella' with 'este' when highlighting the word, but then it marks it as wrong. I know the correct answer to be 'es' but can someone explain why? Thank you!
Because different letters make different sounds in different languages.
The letters in Spanish makes Spanish sounds.
La jota (j) makes a jota sound. See here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c5_dK8IKUw
No, you can’t. The verb To Be has 2 meanings in Spanish: Ser and Estar. Ser is used for conditions of the subject that describe it and can’t change (Ella es una mujer, ella es alta, ella es argentina, ella es una profesora). Estar is used to imply an ephemeral condition, a location or for progressive present (Ella está en el baño, ella está triste, ella está cantando)
