Thank You Streak Freeze!
Recently, I was half an hour late in opening Duolingo and realized I had lost my 12 day streak. It wasn't a very big streak but it was my first time getting it this long and I was beyond disheartened.
But upon logging in, I saw that my streak was still in place. My first thought was that perhaps I wasn't too late but then I remembered I had equipped myself with a streak freeze! Yay!
A tip for everybody out there: GET A STREAK FREEZE. Really. You'll thank yourself later.
I agree, freezing steak is a great way to preserve it. Steak Freezes are awesome.
I know right? I was recently away for two weeks and a streak freeze didn't help, but I know of other times it was a lifesaver.
Yes, I remember logging in at a minute before midnight, I couldn't get an XP on time, if it hadn't been for my streak freeze I would've lost my 200+ steak and a ton of motivation.
200 days? If that happened to me, I probably would've given up entirely. Thank God for your streak freeze.
I very nearly gave up after loosing a 90+ day streak. I didn't have a Streak-Freeze at the time, because it wasn't clear from the description in the Lingot Store that the Freeze is stored and applied automatically if you miss a day. I read the description to mean that I could freeze my streak right now for 1 day.
I have a Freeze in my account now, in case I get that busy day but I'd have a much better streak now if the description in the Store was better!
Oh. That's awful, I'm really sorry. But the good thing is that you didn't give up and went on to get another streak, almost as long as the last. I don't know many people who would've done that and I definitely wouldn't have been able to. Have a lingot for your determination. :D
You're right about the description, I almost didn't understand it myself. If I hadn't read a post about it, I probably would be streak-less right now. It should be changed to a more clear meaning that makes it obvious what it's for. Perhaps something along the lines of "Once equipped, Streak Freeze will automatically freeze your streak when you have been inactive for one full day (but only for a day) and has to be bought again after that". But that would be too long. :P
Anyways, good luck getting back to 90 and keep up the determination!
I would like to be able to buy more than one streak freeze at a time because I often go on vacation in places where I have no internet at all for 1-2 weeks at a time.
Also don't think my streak should increase when I use a streak freeze on a given day. I am over half way to getting enough lingots every 10 days to buy a streak freeze every day.
The recent unannounced "scheduled" maintenance of the site probably broke the streaks of many people. Even if you aren't expecting a trip to disrupt your streak, the streak freeze is still a good idea in case of the site being down or your internet connection being down. I never got the streak before because I thought it was only for the day on which it was being purchased. Thanks to the poster above for mentioning that the streak freeze is held until it is triggered by a day of inactivity.
Re: being able to buy multiple streak freezes at a time for a longer trip, that sounds like an excellent idea. I would vote for that.
Yes, people go on a business trip, vacation or sometimes just need a break to regain some energy. I would really like to see them add 1-week (50 lingots?) and/or 2-week (100 lingots?) freezes.
HI Everyone, I have been practising Dutch for last few months, and have bought on time a freeze streak. However that DID NOT help me - after only one day of inactivity I have lost my 120+ days streak that I was very proud of... It's kind of discouraging this kind of thing to happen even though Duolingo promises to keep streak after having spent 10 lingots on a freeze... Anyone knows why this annoying thing could happen? :-/ I was hoping Duolingo admins could take look at my case as I was sure I had bought streak freeze...
