Thank you, but I hope the Help link will be given more prominence and not remain lost at the bottom of the page.

Edit: Here is the Discussion from 6 months ago I couldn't find last night.....

Oh, wow, I did not realize there were those links at the bottom of the page. Thanks for mentioning that. Now I know how to find other resources :) But I think SussexSoleil, you have a point - as I have just found all those buttons now - which include the help button. (it is a bit embarrassing for me, that I have not noticed them before - but I will get over it - at least now I know.)

https://www.duolingo.com/SussexSoleil

Don't be embarrassed!

I raised this in an earlier conversation which I have now found and linked to above. If you read that, you will see you are not the only one who has been using Duolingo for a long time and never noticed the Help. I seem to recall in Beta it was more prominent, and then got relegated to somewhere most people would never notice it.

Yes, most beginners need it. When I first got to Duolingo, I was confused about the present tense, like for example You eat which also means You're eating. And when I was curious if I can check other course, so I changed the language I speak in to Japanese, and for a 3 days (which is sad because I have a streak) I don't know what to do, until I searched for some answers in Yahoo.

LOVE this- but the link should be way more prominent - up there with Home, Activity, etc. Lots of people will never scroll to the bottom of the page.

And even for the people who will scroll, if they happen to be in one of the sections that have (practically) infinite amount of content (like the activity stream, the discussions, and the immersion), it will just load and load and hide the links at the bottom.

Amazing! This is incredible, and thank you so much for this! I'm definitely going to spend some time this weekend familiarising myself with everything in it so I can better answer questions/direct folks to the right page when people ask things here in the discussions. :)

I'm only just glancing through, but one thing I've seen asked for a lot is a list of moderators, and it doesn't seem to be there. Is it possible to make something that will auto-update with information on current moderators for each forum? It would be incredibly helpful, as I think one of the major barriers to folks reporting is that they don't even know who the moderators are.

Excellent, but I think that you'll reduce a lot of repetitive questions by using something like:

Imgur.

I'm 100% sure the metrics show that that help link is underused.

The help system is great, but as others have said, since the birth of Duolingo it has always been hard to find. The best alternative would be to either replace that search box in discussion with the one in the help center, making it an omnibox that searches through both discussion and the help center. This would also prioritize the results of the help-center. Adding it to other prominent places such as the lingot store/ immersion/words would also make it more useful.

A good help system is one that is found just before a user asks a question.

On a side note, there are 0 results for vocabulary. That's odd considering this is a language learning site!

P.S. The old link duolingo.com/help still works with old text, maybe it should redirect to the new link.

I guess they haven't migrated help for all courses (base languages) to the new link yet.

The page is beautiful, but it needs to be clearly marked and easily accessible to ensure it receives the use it should. Few people notice those little grey words at the very bottom of the page, plus if you are in the discussion forum you don't seem to be able to actually click them because more content keeps loading and the bottom line of text disappears. Once you click on the 'Help' from the bottom of your home page, see how it shows up as a nice blue tab in the bar at the top? That is where it should be located all the time. Easy to see and access, so lots of people can and will use it.

This is a really good idea and it covers a lot of the questions that come up in the discussions frequently. I hope this reduces the number of times that the same questions are asked over and over again - but, if nothing else, we now have something to easily refer folks to. (And, to echo Sussex Soleil, please make sure this is easy to find.)

I presumed that it would be available in all (original) languages. I'm guessing they are still working out the details to get it translated to numerous languages.

Considering that the software behind this knowledge-base probably isn't Duolingo's , that may increase the difficulty in localizing the help messages because it doesn't appear in the incubator for translating.

P.S. Myra and Vivian seem to have created the original ones, so one could at least expect the German, Portuguese, and Swedish versions to show up eventually!

Howdy, If you go to the - "discussion' forum, - select "German from English" from Your Subscriptions
- and type in : seid sind bist where it says Search in the top middle of the page.

It will show you all sorts for results. However this time I have done that for you and if you click on the gray it will take you to a thread - that I think will answer your question.

I hope that helps :)

Does anyone why, after having completed a particular category, often with a clear run, the same ones keep coming up as needing strengthening. It's really frustrating, just when you think you are up to the mark and moving onwards and upwards, you are effectively kicked back and have to go through the same round again and again.

Am I missing something?

I accidentally found this Discussion page just a few days ago when I was looking for something else. There seem to be a lot of terribly enthusiastic messages here, so I clicked on the link that Luis provided in the first message (which says 1 week ago), but I just got the same Help page that I found about a month ago after a rather roundabout search (when I was looking for instructions on formatting messages).

I still see the rather plain page of seemingly random links, there is still no Search function, and I can't see what improvements have been made. Is the new Help feature restricted to other areas? (I am in the UK)

Hi rogercchristie! For now, it is only available if your Duolingo interface is in English (this can be changed in settings). As Luis said, it is still growing (we have a list of answers that we need to add, including one about formatting) and under development, and we hope to make it available to more people in the future once everything is running smoothly. =]

Here is a discussion thread that might be of interest to you. here
you might want to post your question in a different discussion thread - where you may be more likely to get lots more information about what you are asking about.
Perhaps another time - research a question you have in the discussion forum, as I have done for you this time. If you want extra advice in how to do this, send my a message in the activity thread. However I am not often on line at the moment, so you may have to wait a day or two for a reply from me - depending on my private work commitments and responsibilities. :)

G'day Trying66. You might like to check out " This " thread - or perhaps post your question on that thread, and see if someone replies. ... ie click on the light gray word This , and it will take you to another thread.
Or search the discussion thread under key words like review weakest words , or something similar. If you can not find any existing threads that answer your question - perhaps create a new discussion post.

I hope that is of some help to you :)

Thanks. I think I have researched this question now using all avenues. The general 'answer' is that flashcards and the 'Strengthen Skills" option revise words, but there doesn't appear to be a direct way to target the weakest words. Cheers.

Hi, I used 25 lingots to try a French quiz, but within a few screens, my space bar disappeared. I wasn't able to type separate words and just was forced to quit. I have never had this happen. And was hoping to do the quiz and see how I was doing with my progress. Thanks!

I believe there used to be a link to report errors. I can no longer find one. Anyway, in the German lessons, DL translates "Die Männer essen das Mittagessen" as "The men are eating the lunch," which is not correct. The correct translation is "The men are eating lunch." A definite article would serve no function in the English phrase.
