Notice that: "towards her" -> "em direção a ela" "in her direction" -> "na direção dela"

I think "em direção a ela" e "na direção dela", in practice, have the same meaning in Brazilian Portuguese. Duo should consider them equally right in both cases.

Why is "I hike in her direction" wrong? surely caminhar is to hike as well as walk. As in a hike being an extended walk through field or forest?

Very differnt things. You HIKE along a trail, in the mountains or along the riverside. You WALK across the street, along the sidewalk or across the floor.
