Incubator Mock-Ups?

All hail Elvish! Whatever that is... seeing as how Tolkien created multiple Elvish languages.:P

In future mock ups, I will make sure to properly distinguish between Sindarin/Quenya and Mandarin/Cantonese ;)

Cool! You guys are doing awesome work.:) I like how the progress bar looks like it will gradually move instead of jumping from point to point.

I wonder how people will type in the Elvish languages though.

What do you mean with mock-ups? When get we a list of the languages that will start in phase 1?

"Mock-ups" refers to the pictures in the article. They are fake pictures that were created to show what the incubator could look like in the future.

You guys are impressive. You are not only changing the history of language learning. You are making more foreign content on the internet accessible to more people. I really admire your project.

"These moderators will be able to accept any contributors they want, but will ultimately be in charge of the courses."

Interesting, apparently there will be a hierarchy with moderators in charge of accepting future contributors.

That sounds awesome to me. Especially since the Duolingo staff won't be able to confirm everyone's language abilities as there are way, way, way more languages in the world than they speak. They will need to rely on moderators for that.

I find it odd that the mockups show a language called "Chinese" instead of "Mandarin" or another actual Chinese language.

There is no language called Chinese, the same way there is no language called Israeli, or Mexican, or Cuban, Indian, and so on.

Huh? Vedun never said that there is a language called simply Chinese. He was just pointing out that Cantonese is missing from the mock-up.

Indeed, he was reiterating what dan said, and I was just clarifying that all those would fall under the so called "Chinese".

If you visit http://incubator.duolingo.com/ you should be able to click on the courses that are currently there or those that are being worked on.

And what about languages not listed there, e.g. English from Bulgarian?

Those are still in the process of being accepted. The courses that are currently there either have staff contributors or they are languages that are in high demand.
