His name is Mathieu…
I meet him after 2 pleasant month with one wonderful woman. I should say he burst into my life. He enter in my life at the same time with Céline. I met her everyday, since our first rendez-vous. Céline has beautiful voice, I think she has has sweet temper, but when I met Mathieu, ma vie est changé… Mathieu, he is TTS for French course on Duolingo. I hope I will meet him everyday when I will learn French on Duo. Thank you who added me to A/B-test group!
Personally I really dislike the new guy. The sound of his voice is like nails on the chalkboard.
The woman's voice is pleasant and sounds like a true french speaker. The male voice sounds like an italian that's trying to speak french.
If this is really an A/B testing thing, I would love to be put back in the other group.
Well, when I heard Bjork's English accent in her songs for first time I was amused. I don't think it was because she is famous. I think it was because of my personal interest in her creation and her accent as native Iceland. I never can say that somebody's voice I dislike. When I carefully listen to somebody It helps me for improving my listening skills.
I can't stand the new male voice. He sounds like he's exaggerating an accent to mock native French speakers, and I'm getting tired of hearing him add a vowel sound to the end of words which don't have them in actual speech. I truly feel that if he winds up having any effect on my speech I'll be much worse off, so when I'm done enduring the hell of his voice every day I put in old French cassettes to erase his voice and pronunciation from my mind. Having multiple voices in language training is in theory a great idea, but in this case it's actually hurting my enthusiasm - and I believe it's hurting my French, too. I'd rather not speak it at all than sound like a guy who's losing his battle to hold back a gallon of vomit.
I used to look forward to my 30 XP a day but now view it as a chore just because of him - such a chore, in fact, that I now do 10 XP per day because when I was doing 30 I'd get really upset for missing any question because it meant having to hear that guy speak at least one extra time. Any time Duolingo wants to throw me back into the female-only voice group I'll thank them for it, because if he had appeared when my streak was only five days or so instead of the forty it was at the time I don't think I'd have continued with this site. I realize how lame it is to whine about a free service, but because of that new male voice I just don't enjoy this anymore. I'll finish my tree, but the second it's done so is my time with Duolingo French.
The male voice is terrible. He does add a lot of vowel sounds that don't belong. I've turned off the speaker because of him.
