Is it me or does the slow reading voice sound a bit like "gulerøtter" (with an extra "e"-sound inserted there)?

Yes, and it's actually quite common to add a soft 'e' in between the two words that make up this compound. Perhaps not enunciated quite as clearly as the TTS does here, but it's not far off either.
