FINISHED MY FRENCH TREE!

Salut à tous!

Mon Dieu! I finished my French Tree! This is the first tree and language that I have conquered here in on this website. I completed it in six weeks, and I am both ecstatic and overall relieved to be done with such a crazy experience.

For anyone like me who can't seem to learn multiple languages at a time without switching and/or quitting, the easiest thing to do is simply choose ONE language and focus on it until you are completely done with it. Begin a language and complete ALL parts of the subject you're learning before moving on to the next subject.

Take notes! Yes, notes are your absolute BEST friend when learning a language. French for me was quite similar to the Spanish language that I took in High School, so most concepts and grammatical aspects translated over to French, but there are MANY exceptions to every rule. Write down conjugation tables, irregular verb tenses, how-to guides. Everything and anything that you didn't know before hand needs to be written down somewhere. (Also don't forget to HANDWRITE your notes. Psychologists have proven on multiple occasions that handwriting your notes are the best option for memorization.)

Above all, persevere through it. Remember that human language is one of the most complicated and hardest subjects to learn, but the benefits of it are limitless. Thank you so much Duolingo and the French contributors for making such a wonderful and challenging experience for me to tackle, and I am so glad to see my progress in such a beautiful language.

Tony Mintz.

Update: I finished my Spanish tree 24 hours later.

Congratulations Tony! And thank you for the great advice. I am struggling with French and German, and recently, I sort of quit Spanish because I couldn't take languages and schoolwork (and music) all at once. I also don't take notes (I have an exceptional memory and a high IQ and thought I could handle it all (not to brag, but it's true!)), but I will try to do that in the future. I might even need some help with my French. Good luck to you in your other languages! You'll be a polyglot! :)

Yes it is! I have the same problems... and I think 4+ languages makes you a polyglot, although I'm not sure.
