We have been covering some broad categories of subjunctives recently. Today, I am going to cover just a couple a phrases: Hace falta que and No hace falta que. These may be translated to English as, It is necessary and There is no need respectively.

When one uses Hace falta que to express a request or obligation and No hace falta to express an opinion the following clause is constructed in subjunctive.

Structures:

Hace falta que + { subjunctive }
No hace falta que + { subjunctive }

Examples:

Hace falta que entregues tu tarea a tiempo - It is necessary that you submit your homework on time.

¿Hace falta que estemos aquí? - Is it necessary that we be here? / Is it necessary for us to be here ? / Do we need to be here?

Hace falta que vengan todos a la reunion - It is necessary that everyone come to the meeting / It is necessary for everyone to come to the meeting / Everyone needs to come to the meeting.

Hace falta que los datos sean fiables - It is necessary that the data be reliable / It is necessary for data be reliable / Data needs to be reliable.

No hace falta que os vengáis los dos - There is no need that both of you come / There is no need for both of you to come.

No hace falta que salgan hoy -There is no need that they leave today / There is no need for them to leave today.

No hace falta que lo jures - There is no need that you swear it / There is no need for you to swear it.

No hace falta que estudiemos muchísimo todos los días sino que estudiemos un poco cada día y tengamos constancia. - There is no need that we study a lot every day but rather study a little every day and have persistence.
