What are streaks?

What are streaks? I don't know what it is AND how to use that ANd whether it's good or bad. So yeah! What are streaks?

Number of consecutive days you earned (at least) one skill point.

If you get a 10 day streak, you get 1 lingot, 20 days - 2 lingots and so on

I completed a lesson today and nothing really happened. Do you mean a skill? Because lessons are those blue spiral books saying "Lesson 1" and stuff like that.

I wish the time zone was unique to where a person lives and not just eastern time zone. I logged in to do my work at 9 pm pst, but it was past midnight eastern so I lost my 'streak'. :-(
