Why are numbers in the middle of a language course and not the beginning?

Why are numbers in the middle of a language course and not the beginning? It just seems like that numbers would be one of the first things to learn.

I agree, it would be logical if the numbers 1-10 were among the first ten lessons, as it can always come in handy to indicate the amount of something. Even beginners would sometimes like to order maybe two or three coffees in a cafe if they are with friends :)

Learning the numbers does not help you learn how the language your using works.The numbers are rote memorization that some find boring. That being said very few things in a language you can memorize come up more often in real life than numbers.Point being I think for speed in learning the language the current set up is best. If some one wishes to learn the numbers separate for use in real world function there are plenty of sources... perhaps we could have a open numbers lesson box?
