im confused on when to use "tomar" or "levar" to say take or to take

The easiest way to remember is that "levar" involves an action like carrying or taking from one place to another. She took the children to school = "Ela levou as crianças à escola."

Vou tomar um banho. Ela toma uma bebida. Tome minha mão.

So, if "to take" means to move from one place to another, use levar.
