L'ho fatto! Tree completed and all gold!

Happy to have achieved this goal but know I'm far from done. It will take work to keep my tree gilded and not forget my Italian. Thanks to Greg Hullender, I learned some great tips on how to keep the gold with the least effort (more efficiently!). Thanks Greg for your great blog!

Also, I'm very interested in having real time conversations with any native Italian speakers who would like to have an exchange and practice your English too. I have had one conversation on Skype so far, but would like to keep practicing. Please message me if you are interested! Grazie e' buongiorno!

Have you tried, gospeaky.com? I haven't had the time lately, but I do get e-mails on their added features and they really seem to be developing into a nice site.

Congratulations .... It is a wonderful feeling to finally get the tree finished. I just re-guilded my Italian tree and leveled up to Level 21. I still practice every day and find that I am occasionally given a new word here and there. It is still fun to practice on Duo and keeping the tree gold is getting easier as time goes on.

Yes, it is a great feeling - finally! That's great that you still practice every day. I plan to do that too because I hope to visit Europe one of these days. Now I'm starting French. Seems so much harder than Spanish and Italian because of the pronunciation. But I guess there are a lot of good resources to help.

Congratulation and good luck with French tree!

I know Greg Hullender site and I try to apply his tips, hopefully at the end of this summer I will be in the same position where you are now :)

Another tip to practice and improve your Italian - start to read some books. I started this last week after i bought the book I Malavoglia (http://www.elionline.com/eng/book-details?2941/free) and it is totally different experience compared to DL. You will see how your vocabulary grow up :)

I have started to read the book you recommended, and I have downloaded the audio too. I'm enjoying it. Thanks again for the recommendation!

Prego! :)

I use small pencil and notepapers with the book where I write all words I do not know (or I am not sure of them) and at the end of the day I search them in the dictionary. If I do not have enough time, I just take one of the nopepapers and practice the words. After remembering majority of new words, I try to read the original text again.

Btw, how many lesson (approximately) did you practiced per day (or week) to finish the tree? I mean how many new lessons you learned vs how many skills strenghtnings did you used per day? And how long did it take to finish the tree to you?

The number of lessons I completed daily/weekly varied quite a bit as I progressed through my tree. At the beginning I probably only did one or two per day, most of the time. Towards the end I was excited to be so close, I think I did at least 4-5 lessons per day. I always did a combination of new exercises and strengthening, so I can't really tell you how many of each. I started duolingo in September 2013 and was only working on Italian until recently, so you get an idea of how long it took me to get through. I think my "studies" with duolingo have been so valuable in helping me to gain fluency in Italian. But I am far from done. Strengthening exercises to keep my tree gold, plus reading in Italian, and occasional conversations w/ native speakers, are all part of my plan to someday speak fluently. Auguri a te!

Congratulation! Can you answer a few questions for me? About how many days total did it take to complete your tree? And do you think you learned enough for it to be useful -- like to read a newspaper?

July 14, 2015

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Donna_Diana

I have been with Duolingo since September 2013, so a little under two years, but I had studied Italian casually for a few years before joining DL. But DL is what has helped me the most, and yes, I think I have learned enough for it to be useful, although I am not done learning! I am not fluent, but I have had a few conversations in Italian, and I am starting to read a book in Italian that was recommended to me by juraj.slavik; I Malavoglia. I am understanding most of it and enjoying it!

Hi, Donna. Congratulations!

I'm Brazilian and I'll probably finish my Italian tree this weekend. A few months ago, I found this wonderful site and I suggest you to try it: www.italianoautomatico.com It's full of good material in italian, both free and paid. It helped me to reach a good level. The podcast is great! I still have a lot to learn but I can speak a bit and I'm getting better every day.

Saluti dal Brasile!

Molto piacere Marcello e grazie a te! I appreciate the link to the site. I have already taken a brief look and it looks like helpful information. I will be going back again soon to see and hear a lot more. It is exciting to be learning and able to speak a bit. Me too! I may start learning Portuguese at some point too - my dream is to speak at least 5 languages! :)

Meraviglioso, Diana!

Ciao Marcello!
