Another language learning resource- "lang-8.com"
After another user mentioned it, I decided to check out lang-8.com. It's really neat!
You post sentences or paragraphs in the language you're learning, and native speakers correct you. In return, you correct posts in your native language that other users are studying.
I think it's a really good resource because on Duolingo, we don't get a ton of practice writing in the language we're learning (and it's the hardest part for me).
It can't ever replace Duolingo because it doesn't have lessons or anything like that. You need some prior knowledge to be able to use it.
However, I think it's a great tool. It seems pretty active, and I've learned a lot already, not just about the language I'm learning, but also about my native language (English), how it works, and common mistakes people make when learning it.
I just wanted to let everyone know about this great site so they can make use of it to the best of their ability.
(Another cool thing, it saves all your posts, so you'd be able to look back on your previous ones and see your progress!)
I tried it out today. I like it a lot - after just a couple of hours, my first text had been corrected! I am a little disappointed in one thing though; there are almost no texts for me to correct. Maybe the interest in learning Swedish is lacking, or I'm doing something wrong.
I have subscribed but I haven't tried it out yet. However, if you want to practice your writing and speaking skills, livemocha will also do the trick. I've subscribed for Spanish lessons - for which you have from Beginner to Advanced lessons, which is pretty cool - and now I can write texts or record little speaches and submit them to natives for review. So far, it's the only website I've found that allows me audio recording.
busuu.com is also pretty neat (and most of the features are free). There are many interactive lessons, and the writing exercises you complete automatically show up in the newsfeed of native speakers, so they can correct them. There are also options to IM/webchat with native speakers.
