Brazil television news as a supplement

Bom Dia! I would like to share the Brazilian television news program, "Bom Dia Brazil", as a very nice supplement to Duolingo, especially for learning how to "decode" the fast, natural flow of spoken Brazilian Portuguese.

In some of its news sections, for each story, you will find both a video clip and – as a crucial help – a written (almost word-for-word) version of what is said in the news. See, for instance, this one, http://g1.globo.com/bom-dia-brasil/noticia/2015/07/vereadores-acham-superfaturamento-em-merendas-escolares-no-guaruja.html

or go to http://g1.globo.com/bom-dia-brasil/index.html and choose one of the "Leia a raportagem" links.

To prepare your listening to the video, you can copy-paste the text into google translate, and eventually notice how often machine translation goes wrong :-)

for those who live in the US and are a little more advanced in portuguese, Sling TV is a good option. I'm Brazilian and I subscribe to Globo international. It cost $20/month and there is no contract. There are also promotions sometimes in which you pay less for the first 3 months. Although there is a CC button, I haven't gotten it to work in my TV. Dunno if it actually works. I'd strongly recommend novelas, since the characters speak exactly how people speak normally. News are a little easier to understand, since they speak a little slower and more clear than in novelas.

On the Globo site, most news clips have closed-captions (legendas). If you see a "gear" symbol at the bottom of the video, click it and select "Ligada".

You can also explore other news programs on the site under the "Jornalismo" section. All clips without a "lock" symbol can be watched for free.

Comeu?

A Mulher Invisível

The best comedy in my opinion is "O auto da compadecida". I think it is available in youtube. The accent spoken in the movie is somewhat caricatured of the accent spoken in most the Northeast, except Salvador

ah I was just going to ask for something like this. Unfortunately the subtitles are out of sync with the speaker – which is a little annoying

You're right, it's a good idea to watch the news in portuguese. I just watched Bom Dia Brazil on YouTube and I can understand almost everything. Of course, I speak Spanish so it's easy for me. Brazilian soap operas are, at least my favorites, very funny. I love them!!! They are the best. P.S. I watch those soap operas with Spanish dubbing.
