"The dog eats there."
Translation:Le chien mange là.
I tried "Le chien y mange" but got it wrong -- should have been "Le chien mange là." I believe either are acceptable -- any thoughts?
You missed the place where the dog eats which is "there" - in French either "là" or "là-bas", and possibly "le chien y mange" but apparently that was not what Duo was expecting.
I didn't miss the place, as the 'y' is "normally translated by 'there' in English" (via http://french.about.com/od/grammar/a/pron_adverbial.htm ). I agree that Duo didn't expect a 'y' there, but it's a common enough way to say it, in my experience.
