Finally finished the portuguese tree!
After exactly 1 year. I finally finished the portuguese tree here on duolingo! In the biginning I never had an interest in learning languages at all. I was already a native english and spanish speaker (because in my house my family speaks spanish) I downloaded duolingo because I was interested after watching this video
I didn't know a word at all in portuguese, I diddn't know where it was spoken, NOTHING! I started casually learning, I wasn't putting in hard work . I was doing maybe 1 lesson per 2 weeks. Then out of nowhere i decided to get serious about it. I did lessons every single day and at one point had a 100+ streak.
after around 3 months i started listening to music in portuguese, chatting with native speakers (still using a dictionary ) and immersing myself more.
around the 8 month mark I made penpals in Brazil and talked with them everysingle day. There i learned local slang, pronunciation and cultural things.I made it my mission to do everything i did in portuguese. I switched my cellphone, computer, music library, youtube subscriptions, basically everything in portuguese.
After 1 year i feel like i am now at a very advanced level. I speak with natives in real life without a problem (with a good foreign accent )
All I have to say is thank you duolingo! I became near fluent and haven't had to pay a penny :)
That's a lovely story! I agree that Duo is great, but you sound very dedicated. What Portuguese music would you recommend listening to?
It depends on your genre preference. But I like almost everything I listen to a lot of rap, so I find myself listening to a lot of music by this artist "rashid"
if you want a more energetic and cultural genre, i reccomend "forro" mostly played in the northeast of brazil
Try out this website, It makes you write the words from a song as it plays http://lyricstraining.com/
all those genres from the northeast sound so similar !hahahah same with sertanejo
Parabéns! Terminar a árvore é sempre um momento importante na vida de um usuário, mas espero que continue a utilizar o Duolingo e a estudar português :)
Parabéns! You made me realise my hour a day on Duolingo is nowhere near enough.
Um dia, eu quero falar português fluentemente!
I always did like 1 hour a day. But I listened to loads of music, watch tons of youtube videos in portuguese and I skyped once a week with a native . try any of these
So true! I listen to lots of music to help me too. It's the best way to truly learn a language. I like Radio Beat 98 online, but I am now loving maisportugues.com, which is a website with Portuguese language music from all over the world, so you get Africa, Portugal, and Brazil.
Parabéns David e bem vindo a língua portuguesa :)
Congratulations! If you want to train portugues language with a friend, i'm here!
Awesome! How did you find your pen pals? I am on level 11 Portuguese, and I am planning to finish in a couple of weeks. I would love to have pen pals. I agree that you can certainly communicate. I speak Spanish as well, and I was able to communicate well too. It's a little nerve-wracking at first, never having spoken Portuguese in conversation before, but Duolingo works! You sound like me. Most days are 100+. I am hungry!
