Korean Team: Help Wanted

As the title of this post implies, our team seriously needs high quality applicants/contributors. Previously, this course made really great progress in the beginning and then slowed down for a few months. As a result, we decided to select new contributors for this course. If you are passionate about Duolingo and langauges, you have solid Korean/English knowledge, you know Korean perfectly and you are willing to spend sufficient time weekly in the Incubator to make this project a success, then please apply. Share with us your reason for applying, the level you have in each of the two languages and for how much time you would be available. It is a bonus in case you have attended or you are attending a university and took/are taking a course on the Korean/English language or if you have some experience in teaching Korean/English to foreigners. The key words here: experience and fluency.

If you want to become a contributor, you will have to write two essays, one in Korean and one in English, explaining your intentions on why you would like to be a contributor. If you want to increase your chances of becoming a contributor make sure your application has ZERO grammatical errors. We are not only looking to see if you have the passion and time to contribute but we also want to see how good your language skills really are. Before you apply, keep in mind the requirements for being a contributor: Bilingual. You have to be fluent in both languages to contribute accurate learning content. Committed. It takes hours of work each week to make real progress on a course. Passionate about languages and helping the world. This is what will keep you going. In addition to these official, minimum requirements, having certain additional qualifications, such as a background in language education or computer science can help. Do you speak Korean and English fluently? Are you a Duolingo community member? Do you have a passion for Duolingo and Korean/English? Interested in spreading free language education to the world? Then apply to be a contributor for Korean today through the Incubator Page

Elladus have you tried advertising elsewhere? One place to try might be:

Tried there, not the best reaction. Basically, if the head mod there actively speaks against Duolingo's business model and the Incubator, you've got a problem. Also, mind that most on their are non-Koreans, so the patriotism strategy doesn't work

What did they have against the business model and the incubator? Is there a reddit equivalent for Koreans like there is for Facebook?

  1. Using free labour
  2. Reddit equivalent? sort of, butI don't want to go on there. Plus, my internet Korean lingo isn't that great (only know famous or popular ones) as I don't use Korean internet forums
  3. Korean equivalent of FB? Not that I know of. Are you mistaking it for China?

I don't think the head mod understands what duolingo is.. how is it free labour if you guys are volunteering? You aren't slaves.

Yeah it seems FB put it out of business but supposedly it was once really popular:

Cyworld was wildly popular in its home market, with 2005 claims that practically every South Korean in their twenties[7] and 25 percent of the South Korean population[8] were users. By 2006 its domestic userbase numbered 19 million,[9] but this dropped to 18 million by 2008

So I guess it was the MySpace equivalent lol

I dare to suggest that Naver might be the FB equivalent of Korea :)
Source: I play The Sims ^^ and many Korean custom content creators have their blogs on Naver!!! (But some billingual ones are setting up Tumblr to better connect with other international simmers) http://m.blog.naver.com/PostList.nhn?blogId=jinhee_a

No, no, no. Never is the Google of Korea. :)

Hmm.. okay, that's odd that they'd be against volunteering for a good cause lol. No, I've heard that "Cyworld" is a Korean social networking platform.

Perhaps Facebook is more popular than this one in Korea these days?

Cyworld? I never had an account there, and I believe it is pretty much dead

Oh, found your submission there:

Doesn't seem too bad a reaction. Quite a few positive comments.

Anyway, respect for your continuing efforts.
