I took it to mean, He forgets, so ask (him) as if it was an imperative statement. Since voce is translated in the 3rd person singular, there's no way to know if it's an imperative with an implied subject, or if it's more along the lines of the way you've translated it above.

Therefore is the most accurate word to translate 'portanto', but what you state is the general idea of the sentence.

I'm not sure if the 'se' is technically correct. It is used in informal speaking though.
