When I've translated other sentences ending "du lait" etc as "the milk" they've been marked wrong, the correct answer given was "drinks milk" or "drinks some milk". I accepted that since it seemed right, there was no definite article. Yet in this case it's suddenly "drinks the milk". Some consistency would be nice.

D'accord ;-) I am pretty sure that this is a mistake. I wish there was a French expert to help us.

I also was a little surprised to see this. Is there a reason why the is acceptable in this case?

I think this is actually wrong and should be 'some milk', not 'the milk'

Cats don't drink milk, they lap up milk.
