Is there a word for macaroni then?

It is "макарони", too. But I think only proffessionals know what macaroni is (in the strict, formal use). In everyday language the word is an umbrella term for much more than macaroni.

yes there is. "Macaroni" would be "ріжки" (pr. reezhky), which literally means "small horns".

Be all of these good ideas as valid they may, "He likes macaroni" is a correct translation also.
