Cherokee Syllables

ᎣᏏᏲ! I have decided to start posting lessons on Cherokee, and now that I have covered the "A" syllables, I would just like to post a diagram of the rest of the syllables. Here is the link to my first post –> https://www.duolingo.com/comment/9691987

I have some questions, did any native Americans have writing before European contact? Is is still common to write like this or do they just switch back to Latin letters?

The Cherokee language is still written like this. However, before the 1820s Cherokee was only a spoken language. Sequoyah, the creator of the Cherokee script, started off creating symbols for each word, but then he just decided to use syllables. He taught it to his daughter, and then went to local leaders to say a word, then he would write the word down. After he wrote it down, he asked his daughter to read it, and it worked.

Interesting, are you a fluent speaker?

I am not, but I have Cherokee ancestry in me, so I know a bit. But I have been teaching myself for awhile now.
