...Italian

ፎርማጆ (formajo)

The word for “Cheese“, this is the same as the Italian word “Formaggio“.

መኪና (mäkina)

The word for “Car“, this comes from the Italian “Macchina“.

ከረሜላ (kärämela)

The word for “Sweets“ (U.S. English “Candy“), this comes from the Italian “Caramello“.

አናናስ (ananas)

The word for “Pineapple“, this is the same as the Italian word “Ananas“.

ቢራ (bira)

The word for “Beer“, this is the same as the Italian word “Birra“.

ኮመዲኖ (komädino)

The word for “Bedside Table“, this comes from the Italian “Comodino“.

These words are the same or similar due to the Italo-Abyssinian wars of Ethiopia, in which Ethiopia saw some Italian influence (still visible in some cities in Ethiopia today)

ቤት (bet)

The word for “House“, this word is the same as the Arabic “بيت“ (bayt). This is also similar to the Hebrew (בית).

ደቂቃ (däk’ik’a)

The word for “Hour“, “Watch“, or “Clock“, this word similar to the Arabic “ساعة“ (sāʿa). This is also similar to the Turkish (Saat).

ዓይን (ayn)

The word for “Eye“, this word is the same as the Arabic “عين“ (ʿāyn). This is also the same as the Hebrew (עין) and Maltese (Għajn).

ሐሙስ (hamus)

The word for “Thursday“, this word is similar to the Arabic “الخميس“ (al-khamīs).

እሑድ (ïhud)

The word for “Sunday“, this word is similar to Arabic “الأحد“ (al-aHad).

ግመል (gïmäl)

The word for “Camel“, this word is similar to the Arabic “جمل“ (jamal/gamal). This is similar to the Hebrew (גמל).

ዘይት (zäyt)

These words are the same or similar due to the fact that both languages are Semitic, and share some common roots for words.

I'm fascinated!! My parents are from harar and I know some Harari and some Harari words derive from Amharic. I recognized a lot of those words!!!

Most of words you said that are similar in Arabic are almost exactly the same in Hebrew. I know a lot of Ethiopians but I actually never knew it, that's pretty cool. Thanks :)
