Would doing multiple Dutch programs help?
I do Duolingo more often now. I was looking at other language learning sites, and asked myself the discussion question. If I'm learning things at different times it can be confusing, but also can help. I would most likely learn more words at once.
I use different sites/apps to learn Norwegian, my main 2 now are Duolingo and Memrise, since they both have another style of learning, these 2 together seems to work very well for me and probably stick with using those 2 at the same time. I had doubts first and planned to first finish a course on Memrise and then do the one here. But actually I'm glad I didn't wait and started here too. I don't think you should worry that it will make things confusing. For me the opposite is actually true, thanks to Duolingo a lot of sentences I'm slamming into my memory on Memrise make much more sense. While here I know a lot of words already because I've already memorized them. So I need to learn less new words at once in the Duolingo lessons.
I think it will reinforce the basics and help get rid of boredom. Like, redoing a chapter from a book would is less fun than doing a chapter from a textbook and a similar lesson in a podcast and from Duolingo.
I agree with the other posters. Different methods of learning have different strengths and weaknesses. Also you might like one method more than another, or at some point be tired of one method. You can easily combine them and switch between them, depending on what you feel works best for you in terms of learning and in terms of keeping you motivated.
Just a few learning methods (the first that I think of right now):
- Duolingo ;)
- Talk to Dutch speakers (there are websites for this)
- Listen to Dutch music: https://www.duolingo.com/comment/8282101
- Listen to Dutch radio (these have much spoken Dutch): http://www.bnr.nl http://www.radio1.nl
- Read news in Dutch, e.g.: http://www.nos.nl http://www.nu.nl
- Dutch television: www.npo.nl
- In your house put post-its with the Dutch words on everything: de tafel, de stoel, de kraan, het aanrecht, etc.

Just pick whatever methods work for you.
