Hello,

I think a "Latin for English speakers" course should be added to the Duolingo course list. Latin is one of the most ancient languages, and it is where many of the English prefixes and suffixes come from. Many English words (and probably words in other languages) are derived from Latin, and I think it's time there was a course for it. I don't know of many places where I can learn Latin, but I do know it is taught in most high schools and colleges. Well, there should be an opportunity for people who aren't in high school or college to start learning Latin.

This would at least have been a better course than Klingon. Yes, yes, people have said "If you don't like it, don't learn it", and I agree with that, so I'm not sure if I'll be learning it or not. But, really Duolingo? Why make a fictional language? Learning Klingon will not serve a purpose in the real world, other than to communicate with other speakers (which there might not be that many on the Earth). I believe learning Latin will serve a great purpose than Klingon.

I hope the Duolingo team comes out with courses that learners really want.

To be honest, I haven't seen Klingon progress sense I've been on Duolingo (2.5 months). So I don't know what going on with that language. I'm pretty sure is was a marketing strategy to bring in a variety of audiences.

I'm not sure what's going on. The last update in the Incubator is from two months ago and it would certainly seem that the progress they hoped to make over the summer did not pan out. But if I remember correctly, it only has two contributors, and that update implied that they are both at universities, so life might have gotten in the way.

I think. The creators might have run into some copyright issues

But I think the Spanish and portugese language speakers are now more than the Latin language speakers even native speakers of Latin till now are fewer than 100 native speaker. So we need this course very quickly on duolingo and it will be better than the Klingon course as you said because the Klingon is an illusion language and not spoken on the Earth, I think!

Yes, please! I actually joined Duolingo to learn Latin, but to my horror (lol) there was none! So I settled for Greek, which I'm glad I did because it's a lot of fun! :) but please, please add a Latin course! That'd be great!

I really want to study Latin, at least on English, but for me would be better to have Latin-Russian course. Please, let me know what I need to do for launching such course...
