I would like to know...
Does an accented letter (like 'í' in this example) sound different than a normal letter?
Yes it does. However, I cannot give you the exact linguistical answer, but I am sure that it sounds different, otherwise there would not be an accent.
But I have a question. How are you on the Irish sentence discussion if you don't take the Irish course? (I can see this by the flags next to your name)
The accent is called a fada, which is irish for long. So it lengthens the vowel. What would normally be a short i sounds is lengthened to something akin to an eee sound in English (shick-een)
