^ The Hungarian, Hindi, & Czech teams' progress is as per their own calculation.
The next update is expected on Sunday, 2nd of August at 3:00 pm UTC.
Previous Update 12-Jul to 19-Jul
кукушка (means cuckoo) is the only Russian word I know that isn't that common language, hoping to change that!
Holy cow, the Polish for English team has made insane progress over the last three weeks.
Will knowing some Ukrainian help me with Polish? I can't help but notice some similar vocabulary.
Well, I think it may give you some edge, but Polish is little bit more complex. We have more forms than Ukrainian, and you will know the root ones, or at least some of them. On the other hand, Polish is written in latin alphabet, so it's gonna be easier to write and catch up. :)
My general feeling is that, in matter of similarity, Polish and Ukrainian stand like for example German and Dutch.
I didn't know that I have written stuff in Arabic for whole my life. Thanks for enlightening me
Cool. In that case, I think I'll do very well with the Polish tree. It's amazing how similar they are even though they're from different parts of the Slavic branch.
Well, it's very much because of the fact that today's Ukraine was once a part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (Ukraine was a part of Poland back then). During few hundred years native people of these lands heavily blended with the Poles, and Polish was present here in that way. If you're interested in more info, google history of Poland/Ukraine. :)
Ukraine and Poland share some history because they're so close to each other. Lublin was once a Polish city.
As a Polish native speaker, the Ukrainian tree seemed easy for me and I noticed that lots of words are similar. I think it'll give you a small head start. :)
Go Team Russian and Team Polish and Team Hebrew! So excited to see great progress on all three again this week. Russian is so close now :D
Wow, it seems that right after you posted this, four teams each progressed another 1%; Spanish for German has jumped to 88%, German for Turkish has reached 83%, Spanish for Chinese progressed to 54% and Team Hebrew made it to 35%! :D
With the legacy of Duoinc behind us, I have been recording the progress numbers around zero hours UTC on Sundays. But there's no reason why we shouldn't move to more current values read just before the WIU post time. From next week the progress reported will be as of approximately an hour before the post.
It looks like Czech's progress is also per their own calculation, yet the legend does not show that.
Yep, corrected. The legend had gone missing last week, just restored it back :)
Even though I am not learning Dutch nor Irish, I am so looking foward to the new bonus skills. I hope Italian, French, Portuguese and Spanish make some new lessons soon. Thanks for the great update!
Great job team Russian! There are so many great languages to work on, but I'm looking forward to this one.
But what happened to Team Ukrainian, does anyone know? Did they all quit after the course went into beta? They don't seem to have dealt with any user reports since the beginning of June.
Thanks so much for these very useful updates. I look for them each week.
But I wish they could be made sticky. The way the discussion feed works, they slip off the bottom very quickly and if you don't know what to look for, you would never even find them. I think a lot of the repetitive questions people post about new courses, or the status of beta courses, would be answered if your excellent incubator summaries were easier to find.
You make a great point!
Duo staff, would it make sense to keep them sticky for a few days?
I second the sticky post motion. That would definitely make things easier. :-)
And I'd love to see how the Italian-from-French Team is doing. ;-) Maybe you can post an update ? Thanks !
On the "thought for the week": This summer is too far away for me to plan something... 8D
[One of the 10% of the world population who live in the South Hemisphere - therefore in winter - here...]
You are right, I should have said "Northern Summer".
On my to-dos for this lifetime is a trip to the Southern hemisphere in December to witness a hot December! I have traveled close to the equator but never crossed the line to technically be in the southern hemisphere :(
Appreciate your changing it jitengore. We would be very happy to see you in Australia and if you visited in December you would be able to enjoy the summer sun while sitting in the stands of the MCG watching the traditional Boxing Day Test Match...
For me, I would like to do the same but witness a cold December in the northern hemisphere.
My Birthday is in July and I was in Argentina for two years. I tell you, it's really weird to celebrate my birthday in really cold weather and, likewise, to celebrate Christmas and New Years wearing as little as possible and blowing any fans I had at full blast to deal with the heat...
Go Klingon! You guys are awesome! Let's go where no language learning site has ever gone before. :)
More progress for the German for French course! Yay! Way to go guys. :D And a huge applaud for the Spanish and Polish teams!!
Just out of curiosity, is there ANY way to better keep track of these Weekly Incubator Updates? I browse the forums very frequently, and try very hard to find these updates, but I can only find about 1 per month. It's frustrating. =/
I just followed Jitengore - makes it quite easy to find his updates on his profile stream!
A great idea! Thanks! They seem like a pleasant person already, so it's a great addition either way.

WIUs are posted at the same time (Sunday @ 3:00 pm UTC) each week. You should plan to browse the forum around that time :)
Thank you very much! I feel a little silly now: I never paid much attention to the exact time. =P I'll have to set my alarm clock! :)
Russian is getting so close to beta now, I'M NOT READY FOR IT!!! xD Oh, and well done to Team Polish too! :D
I am the First today. To give thanks and give upvote.
Thanks for the Update : O
It's nice to see some progress happening in these courses. Have we heard from the Hungarian Team recently about their course?
It means that sometime in the future, course contributors will be able to add/change skills in the tree, and so release a new tree version. The DE-EN team is currently testing tree versioning, and we all are hoping for an amazing new tree and good results in A/B testing.
TL;DR: A longer and better tree.
Thanks for the scoop, UneJamKuqEZi. For the WIU, unfortunately I have to go either by what the most recent course update says or by the progress percentage that the teams share with me via incubator. Following hundreds of profile streams is not practical for the sake of putting together the WIUs :(
Russian. I just got back from Russia and I want to go back but I want to know the language better when I do so I can visit with my friends in the native language. They were very kind and spoke English to me a lot, but to be able to speak to and understand everyone in a room would be even better, and I feel a bit more respectful.
I am disappointed for the Greek team since they made no progress over the last 1 month, It would be 55% done if they had kept making progress.
I think they've slowed down possibly due to the economic crisis in Greece right now. They volunteer their free time to make these courses but they aren't paid to work on them as their actual job. Anyways, go Greek team!!
