[Suggestion]: Automatically add sentences from immersion articles( or external resources) into lessons practice
Since Duolingo immersion articles are so good that they are used for news websites, Duolingo could take advantage of this. My suggestion is that once an article is deemed complete by the DuoLingo algorithm, and it has not been changed for X time (e.g. days/weeks) this could then serve as a source of relatively reliable sentences for the lessons as these sentences already have translations.
In addition, somebody suggested the use of Taboeta, a site offering sentences based on words which also has working translations in several languages ( http://www.duolingo.com/comment/68846 - http://tatoeba.org/eng/ , http://tatoeba.org/eng/downloads). It should be relatively simple to write an algorithm to cull the website and extract those sentences or alternatively negotiate for use of their database.
The advantages are:
- Reports by users can be used to generate new sentences for the immersion;
- They also could serve as bonus lessons for completing some challenge;
- Learners can refer to an article and gain knowledge of how to use the sentence or words;and
- Vocabulary/ lessons are improved/expanded by crowdsourcing.
Therefore the relationship between immersion and lessons becomes interlinked, such that: Immersion sentences -> new vocabulary -> lessons sentences -> immersion sentences (added through lesson report)
Summary : Add immersion sentences from complete articles into lesson practice
