365 day streak!
I can't quite believe I've managed to practise on Duolingo every day for a year! I remember when getting to 40 days seemed like a long time. Now it's just become part of my daily routine and my streak just keeps increasing effortlessly.
I completed my German tree on day 191 of my streak and I have to say I've put in a lot less effort since and wouldn't say my German has improved that much. I've decided to implement some goals to keep me motivated and actually help with my language learning rather than just give me a nice big number in the top corner of my screen.
Goals for my 400 day streak
- Complete my Esperanto tree
- Get my German tree back to gold again
- Get back to using lang-8 on a daily basis
- Go to Germany and have (at least) one conversation in German (which reminds me, I should have booked something by now, how is the end of July already?)
Goals for my 2 year streak
- Complete my Ukranian, Norwegian & German to English trees
- Attend an Esperanto event
- Read 12 books in German and/or Esperanto
EDIT: I've just re-taken the German progress quiz and scored 4.74/5.0 so despite what I think, I am improving! Let's see if I can get it up to 5.0 soon! And Esperanto is 1.94/5.0. That'll need a lot more practice!
Congratulations on a year, and good luck with your goals! Have fun in Deutschland!
Congrats! I'm aiming for a year too, but should put together a list of goals like you've done. They're awesome.
Congratulations! And good luck on your goals for the coming year. (My goodness, I am really hoping I get fluent enough to read just one book in German!)
Don't wait until you're fluent. Give it a go now. I started Charlie and the Chocolate Factory when I was only about 70% done with my tree and finished it the day before I finished my tree. Because I'd read it so many times when I was little I knew what was going on and could work out the vocab I didn't know without being anyway near "fluent". There were very few paragraphs where I couldn't understand anything.
Honestly it was the best and most motivating thing I've done while learning German so far. I was so pleased with myself - before I started reading I was like you and worried I'd never get to be good enough and I actually did it. Read an entire book in another language.
Here's some lingots for motivation! And I hope someday soon I can proudly read a post of you succeeding!
Respect (y) though you just made my 25 days streak that seemed a big deal to me nothing .. :) good luck
