Is "kuerzlich" not "shortly," as well?

I am only guessing here, but recently implies the past. Shortly implies the future. So I would assume that it does not mean shortly as well.

Hohenems is right. "shortly" = "in Kürze" / "bald"

So "kuerzlich" ist past and "in Kurze" is future? Something like "Ich werde kuerzlich essen" is then incorrect?
