Spanish Present Tense Guide and Presentation

The Spanish present tense is a fairly basic Spanish skill, however it has its quirks apart for English. Let's start.

What is it

The Spanish Present Tense is generally used, as in English, to describe actions that are happening right now.

I eat – Como

However, it is also used in several cases that are unusual, at least at first. Some other instances when it is used are:

Habitual actions

Actions that take place often, such as a job, breakfast, etc, can be expressed with the Spanish present.

Trabajo en una oficina de correos – I work in a post office

Hypothisizing

If Juan cooks, I eat - Si cocina Juan, como.

Timelessness, Universal truth/Ideas

Two plus two is four-Dos mas dos es cuatro.

Man is mortal - El hombre es mortal.

Continuing Past Events

This is used for events that started in the past, but continue today. These sentences are constructed with

hace + time + que + present tense verb

We've been riding this train for 15 hours. - Hace quince horas que andamos este tren.

Conjugation

-ar verbs

-er verbs

-ir verbs

You copied the wrong chart for the -ir verbs,

nosotros/as -imos

vosotros/as -ís

http://spanish.about.com/od/conjugation/a/present_conjug.htm'

Even your link leads us to a chart that suggests "vivemos", but that is wrong it is "vivimos". http://dictionary.reverso.net/spanish-english/vivimos
