I just finished my second tree only two months after the German one. I'm super excited to keep learning and I also wanted to share my favorite sentences with you all because I think they are pretty funny.

1.Hij maakt een doosje in een doosje in een doosje.

2.De beer voelt zich beledigd omdat hij geen uitnodiging heeft gekregen.

3.Ik wacht bij de gracht om kwart voor acht. (I know the last one isn't ridiculous but it rhymes a little.)

Bedank voor de ervaring Duo.

Van harte! Wat dacht je van deze Nederlandse grammaticaal correcte (maar gekke) zin: Als bergen bergen bergen bergen bergen, bergen bergen bergen bergen bergen. -> If a lot of mountains salvage a lot of mountains, (then) a lot of mountains salvage a lot of mountains.

Of deze: Als er achter vliegen vliegen vliegen vliegen vliegen vliegen achterna. Ik had die van jou nog nooit gehoord. Tien keer moet wel het absolute record zijn!

you basically have three variations of bergen here:

  • as an adjective: a lot of something "piles up" to a mountain of stuff (een berg papier - a pile of paper)
  • the noun (plural) for mountains
  • the verb which means to salvage (een gezonken schip bergen - salvage a sunken ship)

So: Als (if) bergen (a lot of) bergen (mountains - subject) bergen (a lot of) bergen (mountains - object) bergen (salvage), bergen (salvage) bergen (a lot of) bergen (mountains - subject) bergen (a lot of) bergen (mountains - object)

As a a bonus a correct Dutch word which you really need to know: hottentottententententoonstelling Try to figure that one out hehe :p

Congratulations! :)

Dutch is on my list after German, maybe in a couple years I'll start a language journey and work through the Dutch course, as you have! I'd do it sooner, but first I'd like to be at a high level (B2/C1) in German (currently A2), and also French (currently B1), so I can call myself a true TrioLinguist! :)

In fact, I reserved the name QuadroLinguist for when I take up Dutch, in case someone wanted to take away my chance to make it my account's new name ;)

Keep it up!

I just started the Dutch course recently. Hopefully, I will know by the end of the tree what all this means so that I understand what he, the bear, and you have been up to.

This is absolutely funny - and although I'm Dutch, I didn't know the sentence with the 'bergen'. Thank you!
