Everyone that I have spoken to that is Hispanic says that "emparedado" is never used in the Spanish language.

Depends on the country, but generally most Spanish speaking countries just say (el) sándwich or bocadillo and bocata (which are more of a sub sandwich on french roll). Other countries have variations such as Ecuador = sanduche and in Mexico = torta (but both use the word sándwich). There may be some others. All of these words translate to emparedado.

In Arizona and Sornora it's a torta and no one ever heard of an "emparedado."
