Improved DuoLingo news delivery!

Thanks a lot to the amazing DuoLingo-Team! Your work is so amazing! :D

My thoughts: I like the idea to get DuoLingo news via the stream (optional, but turned on - with the option to be able to turn them off via the settings).

A lot of people seem to have missed the news about the new incubator and they seem to not be able to get it later as they don't know where to go to get this information. -

There is a need of a clear information channel from DuoLingo to the users.

Or how about adding a "News" tab to the top of the page right next to Mobile? This tab could host the DuoLingo blog so users don't get lost in getting fresh news from DuoLingo. ;)

What are your ideas about this?

Glorious DuoLingo-ing!

Or even sending out an email once a week about what happened.

Having Blog link in the main menu seems like a fantastic idea. I would suggest adding Incubator link too.

"There is a need of a clear information channel from DuoLingo to the users." - This!

There are lots of questions flying around that could be answered just by keeping us users updated. Those updates should be regular, at least once a week (even when there's nothing "special" to tell us). Even better if the updates had some numbers, like "We fixed X bugs and added Y new features." or "We have reviewed X % of all the applications."

I feel like there's a lot happening behind the curtains and we users are "missing all the fun" because of not being informed. I have followed closely some other crowdsourcing projects and they have been very transparent about their processes. It seems to be the nature of that practice - the more people know, the more they can contribute. I love Duolingo and wish the team all the best, and that's why I would love to be more involved in the work.

I am always in favor of more transparency. I think it would cut down on questions and confusion.

Yes! That's a great idea, and to take it even further a weekly or monthly news e-mail could be sent to every user just to keep them constantly updated. Maybe a news notification too? Hopefully the team see this.

I never get alerts when someone writes in my stream. So, if they send news that way, I would need an alert to let me know something was sitting there before i bury it with my practice reports. (Also, in general my alerts laaaaaag pretty hardcore. That might be a firefox thing (along with the stream problems) b/c i've only heard firefox folks having problems with those things.

Is the box checked in your settings to alert you when someone posts on your stream? I use firefox, and I do get alerts. I know what you mean about a little lag time, though.

i only want alerts through the bell looking icon, not email or phone. Text and email wake me up :P
