I understood that "mo chlann: was my family as well as my children.
I said 'I went up with my family and my friends" and it was not accepted. ?? I thought "mo chlann' was also my family??

Clann means family in the sense of children/offspring. It is technically incorrect to use it to describe you, your parents, your siblings etc.

But "family" can be used in that sense in English, too, so it should be accepted as a translation.
