Being able to type "ss" in place of "ß" - for those in regions where ß isn't often used

I live in Switzerland where it is uncommon for one to use the ß character. For me and likley others in the Swiss region, where German students are formally taught in school not to use ß, it is unnatural to my daily German usage to type out the ß. I think there should be an option to type "ss" rather than ß... perhaps a setting that can be turned on and off.

Any thoughts?
