Latin in Duolingo

Hello! i wanted to ask if anyone knows about any plans for a Latin course? I really like to learn that language and I think it will make it easier to study other European languages if you know Latin. and please tell me if there are any good websites you know for learning Latin

There are no immediate plans AFAIK but most people think it will come eventually.

I have seen hundreds of posts where people ask for the Latin course. There is only one way to get it: create a thread, gather some people who can work in Incubator and who can make such a course. And then they can apply to Incubator.

But the problem is that i don't have any knowledge of Latin. how can i do anything? We need experts if we want to start creating a language as hard as Latin

It is not very hard!

Ok, if we want to find experts, we should gather them. There some Latin speakers on Duolingo. If we find enough people and we show our future team, we will succeed.

Sorry for mistakes, English is not my native language.

I cannot recommend any websites, but for beginners Wheelock's Latin (a textbook) is recommendable. Also, there is an app called SPQR which includes many classical texts and a good dictionary. An incredible bargain.

If we study Latin, we can make the Latin course, English is the a language that decendes from French, French decendes from Latin, i mean English is the Germanic language most Latin, also many people from duolingo speaks Latin languages(Spanish,French, etc.) ,and the people that speaks Latin can learn easilest French, Spanish, Calatan, Portuguese, Italian, Romanian, Galician, etc. but Latin is official only in the Vatican City, have a good day!

You can always look at the incubator to see what courses are being built currents.

I think the main thing limiting the speed with which new courses are added is the size of the Duolingo paid team. While the volunteers do a lot of the work the paid team still has to work with them to get the whole think the work. So there are a limited number of places in the incubator to keep things manageable.

The way they decide to allocate those places is is a bit of a mystery to me. Apparently Esperanto was the most requested course at least in the beginning, but it's only recently appeared, so it's not just a popularity contest.

Also Latin would be the first historical language to be added. Duo seams to be a bit cautious about adding new types of languages, though I can't imagine that Latin would really cause many problems - its not like it has an novel script!

It will be added someday. but I want it to happen sooner than a language like Klingon.

I'm going to see if my Latin teacher would like to do it because he has talked about writing a book/teaching Latin his own way and not textbook. I myself am at an intermediate-advanced range so I couldn't do it. Valete amici!
