What is the point of Lingots?

I currently have 335 lingots, and there seems little to spend them on. It would seem to be a good idea if Duolingo gave more thought to this, maybe created a game within the game? I would quite fancy being able to buy and furnish a little Casa del Lingots. Am I the only sad person who thinks this way?

There used to be a few user scripts that you could install to buy games with lingots - a word scramble, a crossword, pretty sure there were some others, but most of them seem to be defunct now. DuoJumbles, the word scramble one, is still available for download here at the Duo wiki, scroll to the end of the list) but I can't get it to work for Irish; it may or may not still work for other languages.

Barring anything else useful to spend them on, I like to use mine to "tip" helpful or insightful posts, especially those of new users who might be struggling to save up enough to buy timed practice and bonus skills.

I agree that other uses would be neat. I'm sure one of the concerns from Duolingo's end of things would be the server load for anything graphics-heavy, though.

I tend to use my Lingots on different things, but I have a few suggestions if you'd like some. For starters, you can buy Bonus Skills to learn extra subjects in one language. Spanish Bonus Skills can include 'Idioms and Proverbs' and 'Flirting'. If you don't want to do that, or already have, you can use your Lingots to buy Timed Practice, which allows you to test your skills, as well as buying the Progress Quiz. If none of these sound appealing, I normally donate my Lingots to new users who need motivation or encouragement. I share your disappointment in not being able to use Lingots for more than a few things, and I really think the idea of mini-games would be fun! Perhaps if someone were to suggest it to the Dueling 'creators', or whatever they are called, they might add in a few games. I know that if you buy the mobile app, though, there are some mini-games for you to play. Perhaps you could try these? I hope these suggestions helped.
