Don't you see this indoctrination everywhere? "Esperanto rules". "Esperanto is cool". "Join now". "Vegetarian bears".
Ali - other/alien. iĝ - become.
Aliĝi - literally do the opposite of becoming alien and join up.
OK Dr. Z.
al = to, towards, in the direction of
iĝi = to become
aliĝi = to become in that direction, to become over there, i.e. to join :)
Yes, it's intransitive, like all -iĝ- words, so you need to add 'al' when talking about joining something. "Join the committee" would be "Aliĝu al la komitato".
Ĉu «aliiĝu» estas become other?
Ne, «aliigi» estas to alter aŭ change ion.
«Aliĝi» (nur sola i inter la l kaj la ĝ) estas to ally oneself to, join al io. Kaj «aliĝilo» estas Membership form.
"Join now!" - comment in balloon: "Aliĝu tuj. Maybe a bit more immediate than that. How about 'right now'? "
More immediate than now. One might be more emphatic about joining, possibly being thereby being more annoying, but can you really get more immediate than now? Now, the always gone by the time you've noticed it instant between the future and the past. Instantaneous is not fast enough for membership salesmen.
You should have already joined before you saw this!!
(As in immediately, if not sooner.)
